We began producing an interesting series of vineyard specific Zinfandels in the 2004 vintage. The collection contains this wine, Wagon Wheel, along with Three Goose, Old Barn and Wind Machine. The fanciful name Wagon Wheel evokes the look of the vine’s canes, growing from the tops of these head-pruned vines, circling the plant and making a sort of grape-vine wagon wheel. Wagon Wheel proves that Zinfandel can have finesse as well as power. The classic black pepper aromas and brambly fruit flavors are to be expected of Dry Creek Zinfandel. The 2006 vintage is truly an elegant wine with precise balance and structure.
